It’s that awkward time of the year again, the dreaded transition between Summer and Autumn, when deciding what to wear becomes more stressful than a looming deadline. As temperatures start to drop, your strappy summer dresses don’t quite suffice anymore, whereas your knitwear leaves you in a hot sweat. So how can you get your outfit just right in this tricky period between seasons?
With the arrival of a new season, you may think that you need a whole new wardrobe, however there are a few tricks that you can use to adapt your current wardrobe for the change of weather. This doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself to a few new pieces too though!
Layer up
Ok, so it’s nothing you haven’t heard before, but the age old trick of layering is a fail proof way of a adapting your wardrobe for the changing temperatures. A lightweight jacket or long-line cardigan can be your saving grace over the Autumn months, as they are perfect for throwing on over your Summer favourites. If it’s getting a bit too chilly to bare your legs, you can give your summer dresses a new lease of life by simply popping on a pair of opaque tights. It really doesn’t get easier than that!
Be creative with your layering, by dressing down a midi-dress with a laid back sweatshirt or smartening it up for the office by adding a tailored blazer. Layering doesn’t always equate to adding garments on top, however, as a simple roll neck can look really stylish worn underneath a sleeveless dress.

Opt for long sleeved designs
Mixing up an outfit to make it more Autumn appropriate can often be as simple as opting for a longer sleeve length. While your favourite skirt may have looked gorgeous paired with a camisole over the Summer, that doesn’t meant it won’t look equally as great partnered with a long sleeved blouse.

Throw on a poncho
Ponchos and capes are a great alternative to a jacket during the transitional period, as they are super easy to throw on over your outfit for some added warmth, without feeling quite as heavy as a coat. Pair with jeans and ankle boots to create the perfect transitional look.

Change up your colours
The arrival or Autumn doesn’t have to mean throwing all your summer brights to the back of your wardrobe, however you may want to incorporate a few Autumn hues into your day to day wardrobe. Channel the Autumn leaves by wearing mixing warm and cool shades such as a deep red, orange, plum and green.
