2016 has been a turbulent one to say the least and though the year has brought us some pretty extreme highs and lows, it’s been a strong one on the fashion front, with stars really raising the style stakes!
From the hottest star-studded events, to laid back day to day looks, experimentation has been a key theme among celebrity style this year, seeing the likes of Beyonce, Rihanna and Lady Gaga really pushing boundaries to express their personality with their wardrobe choices and embracing their own personal style.
So who topped our best dressed list this year? You’ll have to read on to find out…
Gigi Hadid
If you’ve made it through 2016 and don’t know who Gigi Hadid is, then you must have been living underneath a rock, because this young lady has taken centre stage in the world of fashion! From winning International Model of the Year at the Fashion Awards, to stealing the show at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, Gigi has certainly had a year to remember and whether she’s rocking a laid back t-shirt and jeans combo, or a couture gown, she always looks absolutely breathtaking.
Bella Hadid
Following in big sis’ footsteps, Bella Hadid set off a storm in the fashion world this year. Since being signed to IMG in 2014, she’s gone on to open shows in Paris, Milan and London , however this year was certainly a big break for her, as she made her debut in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show alongside Gigi. She’s one stylish lady with a figure to die for and we love her edgy street style looks, as much as her sultry red carpet ensembles.
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga has never been one to hold back when it comes to making bold fashion choices, with some of her most memorable looks including the likes of the meat dress, the nun’s habit and the telephone hat. This year however, it seems as though she has made the decision to tone down her image in favour of a slightly more sophisticated look…not too much though thankfully, as it’s her gaga outfit choices that make us love her so much!
Alexa Chung
Setting trends since she burst onto the fashion scene at the age of just 16, Alexa Chung has maintained a secure spot as one of the UK’s most admired style icons. With a Mulberry Bag named in her honour, a best selling book and a capsule collection for M&S to her name, the model turned IT girl has been soaring to new heights in the world of fashion over the years and is always one to look to for a quirky take on the latest trends. This year she’s upped the ante by swapping the dungarees and tomboy vibe for elegant gowns and chic tailoring.
Michelle Obama
Not only has Michelle Obama contributed a lot to the US over the years that Barack has been President, but I think it’s fair to say that she has also been the most stylish First Lady of all time! Seen wearing designer gowns from the likes of Narciso Rodriguez, Brandon Maxwell, Versace, Gucci and more, Michelle has stolen her husband’s limelight on more than one occasion. As it’s her final year in the White House, it only seemed fit to recognise her as the style icon she has become.
Zayn Malik
Other half of Gigi Hadid, Zayn Malik, has been making some serious waves in the fashion world since making his exit from One Direction in 2015. Not only has he exhibited exquisite taste when it comes to designer wear, but the popstar has also landed a collaboration with Giuseppe Zanotti and Versus Versace, with capsule collections being released early in 2017. Kanye West
If there’s one person who knows how to nail urban fashion, it’s Kanye West. He’s one of the biggest names in hip hop and with a sell out fashion line to his name, he’s certainly gained a name for himself in the industry. Oversized silhouettes, sports inspired designs and chunky footwear has become his signature look of 2016.
Eddie Redmayne
It’s quite possible that Eddie Redmayne is the most stylish man in the world right now and for this he has his tailor to thank! The guy sure knows how to work a suit and though his boyish good looks and slender frame certainly contribute to this, it’s the perfect cut and fit that leaves him looking so polished. Of course, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, so over the last year we’ve seen Eddie sporting a suit in pretty much every colour and material imaginable, from velvet tuxedos, to brightly coloured pin striped numbers. We think the classic modern day gentleman look should catch on!
Jaden Smith
Born into a famous family, some could say that Jaden Smith had a bit of a springboard into the industry, however over the last year the 18 year old has proven that he is so much more than just a Hollywood couple’s son. Building a name for himself for pushing all gender boundaries to one side, Jaden has become one of the most inspirational style icons for men and women alike. He’s the king of layering and his signature look generally includes long-line items, paired with structured jackets and skinny fit jeans; though he’s known for going for somewhat more daring looks for special occasions and even became the face of Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2016 womenswear line.
