Big fashion news! A film biopic exploring the life and death of late fashion designer Gianni Versace is in the making!

“So who’s going to play the fashion legend?” I hear you ask.

Well, it has now been revealed that none other than Spanish actor Antonio Banderas, most famously known for his roles as Zorro and Puss in Boots, is the special chosen one.

Banderas has recently tried his hand at fashion, enrolling at Central Saint Martins to study Menswear last year, so the role is the perfect opportunity for him to combine his passions for fashion and acting. He told daytime television show Loose Women that:

“Central Saint Martins is probably one of the best schools in the world and so I am going to start studying with them. It makes me feel actually very young to put the elbows on the table again and try to understand another reality.”

Only limited details have been released about the film so far, however according to Italian media reports it will be directed by Bille August and is going to be filmed in Reggio Calabria (the Italian town in which Versace was born), Milan and Miami (where the designer was sadly killed in the summer of 1997).

It has been said that the Versace family have not approved the film and the fashion house released a statement saying they have:

“neither authorized nor had any involvement whatsoever in the forthcoming movie about Versace. The movie should only be seen as a work of fiction.”
