At 9pm on Saturday, Victoria House was the only place to be! Celebrities, bloggers, buyers, designers and models alike all descended upon Southampton Row to be the first to glimpse Versus Versace’s Spring Summer 16 show.
Upon entering the venue there was a buzz of excitement in the air, expectation and anticipation were bubbling over in an energetic froth of chatter. As the guests descended the large stone staircase towards the basement they were met with the formidable character of the lion head logo painted in black upon the wall. This imposing sight set the tone for the evening – this was a night for the bold!
Before the show began, paparazzi swarmed around the celebrity attendees and big name guests on the front row. FKA Twigs was spotted wearing a sexy black number with cut out chest piece while singer Paloma Faith donned a black and red pleated Versace skirt with structured bustier. Other big names attending the event included supermodel Irina Shayk, previous Versus Creative Director Christopher Kane, Z. Tao, Marky Ramone, Laura Whitmore, ex Made in Chelsea star and blogger Emma Miller as well as Saturday Vanessa White just to mention a few.
Then the moment came, the room fell into darkness and the chatter of expectation was silenced. Suddenly, without any warning, strobe lighting illuminated a live band (The Strypes) behind a row of guests playing a heavy rock soundtrack which complemented the Versus brand perfectly. As the guests became accustomed to this assault on the senses, the models began to appear one by one.
The mood of the collection was strong, it offered urban inspirations with a playful yet provocative attitude that captivated the entire audience. The collection featured bold floral prints, subverted tailored menswear and deeply sensual women’s dresses. The signature Versus Versace traits of leather, sex appeal and lion head logos could be seen resonating through the collection but with a fresh new take.
This line was Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello’s second outing for the brand and it was met with high praise. Speaking to members of the audience after the show it was clear that Vaccarello’s new ideas and innovative edge took Versus to a place that it hadn’t been before. Not everyone had anticipated great success from Vaccarello yet the show was well received and the designer has continued the prosperity from his first line.
The event was planned to perfection, even down to the hand-picked choice of models who strutted the runway in scantily clad outfits. The incredible Sophia Ahrens walked out in stunning leather jacket alongside the likes of Binx, Erin Wasson, Lily Donaldson, Jamie Box, Stella Lucia, Demaris Goddrie, Marjan Jonkman and Isabella Emmack.
